Authentic OU Helmet Signed by Adrian Peterson
Former Sooner and current Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was recently honored as the 2007 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press. In commemoration of his accomplishments this season, the OU Athletics Department is offering fans the opportunity to bid on an authentic OU helmet signed by Peterson.
Peterson, the seventh overall pick in the 2007 Draft, set a new NFL single-game record for rushing yards with 296 against San Diego on Nov. 4. He led the NFC and was second in the league in rushing with 1,341 yards on the season and tied for second in the NFL with 12 rushing touchdowns.
Peterson helped the Vikings set a new team record for rushing yards in a season with 2,634. Also utilized as a receiver and a kick returner, he amassed 2,021 combined net yards to rank second in Vikings history.
Voted the NFC's starting running back for the Pro Bowl on February 10, Peterson is one of five finalists for the 2007 Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Year award which will be announced on January 31.
Prior to moving on to the NFL, Peterson finished his career at OU as the third-leading rusher in school history with 4,045 yards. In his first season, he set an NCAA freshman record and eclipsed the OU standard for most rushing yards in a season with 1,925. He had the highest finish ever by a freshman in the Heisman voting (second) and was a consensus All-American.
Peterson signed the helmet while in town for the 2007 football intro video shoot prior to the start of the season.
